Anonymous asked: Hi! I've always been heavy/big and currently got to be around 240 pounds, I train in the gym for 8 hours a week along with various other exercises. The problem is my diet, I'm allergic to like 70% of foods which means its hard to get a good diet so my doctor gave me so many pills to take which he said may stop weightloss. I'm dying to be thin and fit in with my friends and finally have some confidence in myself, any advice?

Answer:

If you’re at an unhealthy weight (240 pounds is pretty unhealthy), then your doctor should be supportive of you losing weight to get healthy. I would suggest going back in to see him and tell him you are trying to lose weight, and if there are any other alternatives to the pills you’re currently taking. Having a restrictive diet can be very hard to lose weight, but it’s not impossible. You just have to be selective in the foods your eat (which you already are I’m sure) and really pay attention to how much you’re eating and being sure you are getting all of the right nutrients. I would talk to your doctor about maybe seeking help with a nutritionist who can help set you up with a meal plan that details the sort of foods you can eat. The nutritionist could be very helpful (and could be covered by insurance due to your food allergies) and will get you eating the right foods. I would think (but once again, talk to your doctor about this because I don’t know your exact allergies/situation) that if you steer clear of foods with the ingredients you’re allergic too, but take vitamin supplements to give you the nutrients you lack, then you shouldn’t have to be on too much medication! There are many foods out there that can provide you with the nutrients you need, but sometimes we need supplements when we’re already on a restrictive diet. I’d say your exercise seems fine, it’s just your diet that needs help from a qualified professional. Best of luck with everything :)
