Anonymous asked: Are there any safe fat melting pills?

Answer:

In my honest opinion, I don’t think anyone should turn to diet/metabolism-boosting/fat-burning pills to lose weight. I know brands such as Hydroxycut are very popular, but in reality, those are essentially caffeine pills. They contain high amounts of caffeine, which can boost your metabolism, but they don’t have any super secret magic ingredient that sheds away the pounds. The thing that worries me about these pills is that they do contain ephedrine. Ephedrine is one of the main ingredients in methamphetamine (the street drug meth/crank/etc). Now the amount is minimal, which is what makes these pills legal, but it’s still there nonetheless. The other more worrisome thing, which is actually probably a much greater threat, is the amount of caffeine in these pills. I’ve researched a lot on caffeine, done a few projects for school on it, and the recommended daily amount is about 50-100 mg of caffeine. That’s about 1-2 regular cups of coffee. If you exceed 250 mg of caffeine daily, it can actually be detrimental to your health. Caffeine addiction is very possible. For those who drink a lot of coffee, they may notice if they skip their morning cup, they have a headache for the rest of the day, or possibly until they get caffeine in their system. This a sign of a caffeine addiction. Hydroxycut has about 350 mg of caffeine in it I believe (they do have a caffeine free version and a women’s version with only 230 mg or so). So if you add that, on top of the caffeine most people consume daily (through coffee, tea, soda, chocolate even), then it can definitely cause you to easily exceed caffeine limits daily.

All in all, what I don’t like about fat melting and diet pills are that they’re not natural. Your body has the means to burn fat and lose weight on it’s own, it just doesn’t always do it at the fast pace many are so desperate to achieve. If you want to be healthy, skip the pills. You can receive most of the nutrients you need through a healthy diet (if you have a restrictive diet, then I would suggest regular, plain supplements for things you’re lacking) and you will burn fat the one true way that naturally works: exercise. If you commit to a healthy lifestyle, then thats all you need. I say the risks of pills aren’t worth it.
