greenteapearl asked: So I've done well and lost 16 pounds! I've been eating healthy (occasionally indulging of course!), running, and doing basic exercises like squats, lunges, sit-ups, donkey-kicks (a lot of those inner thigh exercises really...), and occasional arm exercises with light weights (8-12.5 lb). I'm almost happy with my weight and size, but I really want to tone up and start doing more with weights and gaining muscle, but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions on exercises?

Answer:

Congratulations on your success so far :) There are definitely a lot of exercises out there, so it just depends on what you feel needs the most work and to incorporate all of these into your daily exercise and switching them up!

I’d say a good place to start for you is to start toning your core. Core exercises can be things like crunches (try mixing them up by laying on a ball instead of the floor, or laying on the floor and putting your feet up on the ball), planks and side plank lifts, bicycle kicks, balancing twists with a medicine ball, leg raises with medicine balls, reverse crunches, etc. It’s easier for you to either google the name of the exercises I gave you, or to just google core exercises. I have a link to some exercises with GIFS that show you how to do them here. I also have a link to a great site that has different areas of the body that you can click on and find exercises that target that area (but remember, you can’t spot reduce fat, but you can work to tone and build muscle in certain areas). That site can be found here (guys, that site is unfortunately only for women, but I’m sure you could use some of the exercises it outlines as well!).

Hope these links help. I’d say your best bet to finding help for beginning is through fitblrs and youtube!
