retrospark asked: I think I've been overworking! My knees hurt and are quite stiff, especially when I go up stairs. Squats hurt, lunges hurt even more. I was wondering if there is any kind of cardio I can do that'll keep me on my weight loss regime? Pairing my knee injury with Christmas and New Years has been horrendous, I've already gained a fair amount. Thank you! <3

Answer:

Don’t be afraid to take a break! You want to push yourself in your workouts, yes, but you never, ever want to risk injury. If it actually PAINS you when you’re working out, then stop and take a break. For your knees, I’d suggest getting some icy-hot patches and wrapping them on your knees when you’re just resting at home. You also want to make sure you stretch a lot, both before and after working out (make sure it’s after you warm up though!). I would say the elliptical is your best bet for a low impact cardio machine that won’t cause too much pressure on your knees, as long as you keep the resistance light and don’t go too fast. If your knees are really in pain, try some things like shadow boxing or just simply lifting arm weights. If your knees bother you for a prolonged amount of time, I would definitely suggest seeing a doctor! Hopefully your knees gain strength, or just a few days off is all you need to have them feeling good again!
