Uh, YEAH! Of course there are fun ways to exercise! You just have to branch out and find new things that excite and interest you. You don’t want to get stuck in the same boring routine for multiple reasons, so the first thing to spice things up is to try new machines at the gym (if you have a gym membership). Let’s say you stick with the elliptical and treadmill only. Those are great, but I personally always have to read when I’m on the elliptical because otherwise I get bored. So try something you’ve never tried before! A lot of gyms are getting those new ellipticals, where it’s almost like you’re floating. Not sure what they are called or how to describe it, but if your gym has it, you’ll know what I mean. Those are pretty awesome and they get a better workout in than a regular elliptical because you’re using your whole body to propel the machine, instead of having your feet move forward on a track. There’s also the bike, stairmaster, spinning bike, whatever! Try a new machine every time you go to the gym. Maybe warm up for 15 minutes on the treadmill or something, then try one new machine and see how you like it. There’s also weight training, which is what everyone should do to build muscle and keep burning fat! There’s a lot more variety in weight training, either with machines, hand weights, medicine balls, etc. You can find a lot of step-by-step instructions on tumblr or google on new exercises that build muscle, target your core, or work on your abs. Those can be really fun, especially when trying them out with a friend.
What I find really fun about my workouts is setting fitness goals for myself and trying to accomplish them every time I’m working out. It can be either staying on the elliptical for an extra 5 minutes, bumping up the resistance, or reaching a certain mileage. If I’m nearing towards the end of my time on the machine, I decide to just go all out and do something I’ve never done for as long as I can do it. There is always room for improvement and it keeps yourself motivated, feeling accomplished, and having fun trying to break your record/goal. Having new and good workout music helps as well! I like to check the iTunes top 100 list every few weeks, to see what new music is out there, and if I find something with good beats, I add it to my workout playlist. It always makes me excited to go to the gym when I have new music to listen to.
There’s also the wonderful world of ZUMBA! I absolutely love zumba. It basically incorporates all types of dancing into a really fun, modern, high-energy workout, but it’s so much fun, that you don’t even feel like you’re working out. If you do have a gym membership, I highly recommend looking into the schedule and seeing when they hold zumba classes. There are also zumba classes you can pay for around your town if your gym doesn’t have them (most gyms do though). And don’t worry about feeling ridiculous, not having rhythm, or even if you’re a guy. It’s so much fun, anyone will enjoy it. You can also try out other classes like yoga, kickboxing, pilates, spin, etc. I suggest trying all the classes you can, even if you’re afraid you can’t do it or won’t like it. You can often surprise yourself! Give yourself a little more credit :)
If you don’t have a gym membership, or you want to try something at home, you can find a whole list of workouts online. You might have heard people talk about Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred or the brutal p90x? Well if you don’t have the money to purchase those, you can find them easily online! I don’t know how up to date these links are, but I reblogged some video links awhile back on my fitblr. Check those out and see if you find one you like! There are videos for at home zumba, yoga, training your core, hip hop dancing, whatever! Click here :)
